Frequently asked questions

Everything merchants ask about installing Signalz, choosing signals, and getting alerts to the right people—without the jargon.

About Signalz

What the app does and who it’s for.

  • What is Signalz?

Signalz is a Shopify app that watches your store for meaningful moments—big orders, inventory risks, traffic spikes, milestones—and sends timely alerts to your team over email, Slack, or SMS. You choose which events matter and how loud each one should be.

  • Who is Signalz for?

Merchants and operators who want to stay close to the business without living inside the Shopify admin all day. Whether you run a solo brand or a team with fulfillment and marketing, Signalz helps everyone react faster to wins and problems.

  • Do I need a Shopify store?

Yes. Signalz installs from the Shopify App Store and connects to your store through Shopify’s secure APIs. You manage billing and permissions the same way you do for other Shopify apps.

Getting started

  • How do I install Signalz?

Search for Signalz on the Shopify App Store, click Install, and approve the access your signals need. Open the app from your Shopify admin to finish onboarding—pick signals, connect notification channels, and send a test message to confirm delivery.

  • How long does setup take?

Most shops are up in a few minutes: install, enable one or two signals, and connect email or Slack. SMS and advanced rules may take a little longer if you’re coordinating numbers across a team.

  • What Shopify data does Signalz access?

Only what’s needed for the signals you enable—such as orders, refunds, inventory, and store settings. Permissions are shown during install and in Shopify’s app settings. We use data solely to evaluate rules and deliver alerts you configure.

Signals & alerts

  • What is a “signal”?

A signal is a rule tied to a store event—for example a large order, low stock on a bestseller, or orders suddenly stopping. When conditions match, Signalz creates an alert and sends it through your chosen channels.

  • What kinds of events can I monitor?

Signalz includes celebration signals (big orders, revenue spikes, milestones, trending products) and watchout signals (low stock, refund spikes, traffic without conversions, quiet periods). You enable only what you need and can tune thresholds per signal.

  • Can I enable more than one signal at a time?

Yes. Turn on as many signals as your plan allows. Free plans include one active signal; paid plans unlock unlimited signals so you can cover both growth moments and operational risks.

  • Where can I see past alerts?

The Activity page in the app lists triggered signals with timestamps and context, so you can review what fired even if you missed the notification.

Channels & delivery

  • Which notification channels are supported?

Email on all plans. Slack and unlimited signals on Basic and above. SMS is available on the Full plan. Configure each channel under Settings → Channels and choose per-signal delivery in the signal editor.

  • How do I connect Slack?

From Settings → Channels, connect your Slack workspace and pick the channel where alerts should post. Each signal can target Slack, email, SMS, or a combination depending on your plan. During authorization, Slack may show a red notice that the app isn't approved yet — Signalz is safe to connect; Marketplace approval is underway and you can click Allow to continue.

  • Does SMS work outside the US?

SMS delivery is currently limited to US mobile numbers. Email and Slack work internationally. If you need another region, contact us—we’re expanding coverage based on merchant demand.

  • I didn’t receive an alert. What should I check?

Confirm the signal is enabled, your channel is connected, and quiet hours aren’t suppressing the message. Send a test from channel settings. Check spam folders for email and verify Slack channel permissions. If it still fails, email support with your shop domain and the approximate time of the event.

  • What are quiet hours?

Quiet hours pause non-critical notifications during times you set per channel (SMS, Slack, and email can each have their own schedule). You can define your store timezone and set different severity floors so critical alerts can still break through on the channels you choose.

Plans & billing

  • How does billing work?

Subscriptions are handled through Shopify’s app billing. Choose a plan in the app or on Shopify’s pricing page; charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice. Upgrades and downgrades follow Shopify’s subscription rules.

  • What’s the difference between Free, Basic, and Full?

Free includes one signal and email alerts. Basic adds unlimited signals plus Slack. Full adds SMS alongside email and Slack. Exact pricing is shown in Shopify when you select a plan—no separate Signalz invoice.

  • How do I cancel or uninstall?

Uninstall Signalz from Shopify Admin → Settings → Apps and sales channels. That stops new data collection and billing through Shopify. You can also downgrade to a lower plan before uninstalling if you want to keep the app with fewer features.

  • Is there a free trial?

Trial availability, if offered, is shown in the Shopify subscription flow when you upgrade. The Free plan lets you try core functionality with one signal before committing to a paid tier.

Privacy & security

  • Does Signalz sell my store or customer data?

No. We process store data only to provide the service you configure. We do not sell personal information. See our Privacy Policy for details on collection, retention, and subprocessors.

  • What happens to my data when I uninstall?

After uninstall, we delete or anonymize merchant data within a reasonable period, subject to backups, legal, or security retention requirements described in our Privacy Policy.

Help & contact

  • How do I get help?

Email support@signalzapp.com with your shop domain (for example your-store.myshopify.com) and a short description of the issue. We also respond to messages sent through the Shopify App Store listing.

  • Can I request a new signal type?

We love hearing what operators need next. Send your use case to support—we prioritize signals that help many merchants run calmer, faster stores.
